Beginning of the School Year

The kids are off to a great year. I've volunteered at the school several times as well as gone to the kids' "Fun Run' fundraiser to watch their speedy legs earn money for their library.

Luke's class earned a "crazy hat" day from the fundraiser.

At first, I think Myles was a little uncertain without his siblings to pester.  However, he adapted quickly to having me all to himself.

Nielson-Brown Backpacking

Bryan and I took our turn for the overnight get-a-way and left the kids to play with Cramers. We drove up to Rocky Mountain National Park and hiked to Sky Pond. It was rainy off and on, but only a true downpour once we set up camp and were safe inside our tent--we lucked out with the weather! Our friends, Doug and Shauna, were able to join us last minute. We hiked from our camp spot of Andrew's Creek up to Sky Pond. A storm moved in while we were at the lake and we managed to find some cover before the hail started. It was quick and blew over, but with it getting dark and slippery rocks going back down we decided to head for camp. I love being in the mountains. I love it even more when I get to be there with Bryan--he's got this outdoor thing and taking care of me down pretty good.

Chandler's Mission Farewell

Luke and I made a quick weekend trip to Utah to support Chandler and his family as he left for his mission in Argentina. Luke had a blast with his other cousins that he doesn't see too often. Chandler gave a great talk at church and it definitely pulled on my heart strings realizing how quickly time passes. I'm grateful for Chan and his example. Oh, and I made myself sick eating the fresh, ripe peaches picked right off the trees. I would do it all over again.

Back-to-School Feast

We held our annual back to school feast a few days before the kids' first day of school (including Myles). I am not one that really enjoys cooking, but I do like bringing the family together for dinner, and this dinner is ALWAYS looked forward to by the kids. I think it is largely due to the fondue dessert, but it is a night that we each enjoy for a variety of reasons. Our family theme for this school year is, "Have courage and be kind." As we discussed what this meant, the kids took turns sharing ways of how they could be brave and kind to others (and themselves). This night snuck up on me--it was a quick Summer. I felt like I needed these words for my heart to "have courage" as I sent my kids out the door this year. Bryan gave each of them a father's blessing and even Myles requested to have one, too. It was a tender evening. Praying for a good year for each of them!
