Welcome 2018! Granby/Winter Park Trip

We were pretty mellow with our New Year's Eve celebrations. We dined on fondue, but the only part the kids enjoyed was the desert part-the chocolate fondue. Also, the kids were very excited for the New Year's Eve countdown on Netflix. It was awesome to do the countdown at 8:30, tuck them in bed and then Bryan and I were in bed by 10:30. Party animals!

On New Year's Day we drove to Winter Park and skied part of the afternoon as a family. Myles did well-ish (Bryan got a good work out skiing with him), Emma was leash free and Luke continued to work on his turns and be a little over-confident with his skills. :) At the end, everyone was tired and it was a long walk back to the car. It was the trail of tears for Myles. It is quite the feat to take three kids skiing and manage all of the gear on top of it. We're learning as we go and are grateful to be making theses memories: great ones and real-life ones.

After skiing, we drove into Granby to meet up with the Cramers and stay at Bryan's parents' timeshares. Thank you again, Steve and Carrie, for letting us use these! We stayed at the casita-style room. These are super convenient with families as there is a full kitchen and the hot tub is outside on the deck. I think these are our favorite ones that we've been lucky enough to stay in.

The next day, we headed back to Winter Park to ski the morning. Myles was falling asleep in the wagon ride from our car to the chair lift. Not the best of signs. He was done after one or two runs. I was feeling a little under the weather and so it actually worked out well for Myles and I to chill in the lodge while Bryan, Emma and Luke skied the morning away. Emma and Luke both became a little more daring with their skiing skills. Bryan commented how exciting it was to hope that in a few more years we might all be independently skiing (fingers crossed).

Falling asleep on the way to the chair lift. Not the best sign.

"Yeah, skiing is a blast."

We drove back to the timeshare and went sledding with Cramers on the property there...or close to it. Bryan joined for a little while, but I stayed back with Myles who was napping and I was feeling pretty rotten. That night we hot tubbed some more, played games and visited. Love the Cramers who are like family to us.

We packed it up the next morning, hot tubbed one last time and headed home.

Goals

I need to do some serious catch up on the blog, but I'm considering it a success that I haven't thrown in the towel and am still posting some happenings.

At the beginning of 2017, Bryan and I set a goal to attend the temple once a month together. There were months that were definitely trickier to make it (kids being sick, babysitters canceling, work schedules, life in general), but we stuck to our goal and made it 12 out of 12 months.

I wanted to write down a few things I don't want to forget about this past year with our goal. We put cash in an envelope at the beginning of the year to pay our babysitter when we attended the temple (sitters can be expensive!). Our cash envelope was never empty throughout the year. I realize to compare it to the loaves of bread and fish story in the Bible is a bit extreme, but Bryan and I both commented how long the cash in our envelope lasted.

It was reiterated to me over and over again that the temple is a place of peace. No matter what struggles or heartaches we are experiencing, the temple is a true refuge from the storm.

Love this man and am grateful for his desire and push to set this goal.

Zoo Time

This Winter has been so mild and lovely. I am genuinely not missing the snow. With such nice weather, we were able to visit the zoo over the kids' Christmas break. Lots of the animals were out and the lions were in some type of roaring match. Luke was very helpful with Myles. Myles would be Luke's shadow all day if Luke would tolerate him. :) We rode the train as our last stop at the zoo and then headed to a nearby McDonald's with a play place. Once school starts, zoo dates with all the kids are hard to come by. So strange how different stages come and go...it seems like just yesterday I was lining up play dates for Luke with his other toddler friends. Now, Myles is lucky if he gets a play date once a month!

Dentist Time

My kids love going to their dentist. Is it bad that the kids viewed it as an "outing/adventure" to go to the dentist over Christmas break?!? Props to Dr. Shah and her staff.

Boondocks

The Tuesday after Christmas we took advantage of a deal at Boondocks. It was like giving the kids another Christmas present when they found out where we were going that day. For $12 you get a day pass for arcade (certain games), laser tag and bowling. We went in the morning for a few hours then came home and everyone took a nap-Christmas miracle for me!! Bryan headed back after dinner with Luke and Emma until 10:00. We definitely got our money's worth out of that deal! :)

I don't want to throw Myles under the bus, but when he and I played Space Invaders,  he was clearly on the alien's team.

Emma chose the figure on the motorcycle that was most similar to her own resemblance.
